Evaluation of Paper Towels on the Market
(Show Details...)

We have run a study on the comparison of paper towels using PhabrOmeter®. The extraction curves tested are shown above.

The paper towels fingerprints are showed below:

- We selected 'Job Squad (viva)' as the preferred towel since it has the best softness.

- 'White Kleenex (viva)' and 'Scott Towels' are the worst because both samples were so weak that they broke during the testing.

- The data shows how close those tested paper towels are relative to the desired paper towel.

- The report shows how close are those tested paper towels to the user desired paper towel.

Evaluation of Facial Tissues
(Show Details...)

Tested results on facial tissues from the market:

- 'Puffs Plus' from Procter & Gamble;

- 'Kleenex tissues' from Kimberly Clark ;

- 'Target tissue' from Target.

The extraction curves are showed above. According to the testing results, we can conclude

The three tested facial tissues are very close in sensory quality, however there are following differences:

- 'Puffs Plus' from Procter & Gamble is more durable and it is little stiffer than others.

- 'Target tissue' from Target is the softest.

Instrument to replace Human sensory evaluations

Although originally aimed at the measurement of fabric hand, PhabrOmeter® technology has shown much wider applicability and gone on to be used in a range of industries, for things like paper and tissue products, performance evaluation of cosmetics, the feel of interiors and paints. The technology continues to spread to more fields where human touch is involved.

For instrument to replace human sensory evaluations, the sensory evaluation has to be used as validation, in establishing the instrumental approach. Once accepted, it will become the standard procedure in routine evaluation just like the colorimeters.

Issues involved in Human sensory evaluations
  • touch only
  • touch + sight
  • finger, palm or tongue
  • expert judges ( quality evaluation)
  • consumer judges (preference)
  • background, market, product dependent
